Opening New Documents, Pictures, Papers and Embellishments

© Digital Scrapbook Memories, 2006 - 2015
This tip works on any version of Photoshop including Elements. Similar programs will do similar things.

To open a new file go to File in the drop-down menu at the top of the screen. Choose either new or open depending on what you want. New will give you a new blank document and Open will allow you to open a picture, paper or embellishment.

Choose New if you want to open a new blank document.

If you know a lot about printing you may decide to choose other options. However, if you are new to printing do exactly as I say and you’ll do fine.

Width and Height
Make sure your width and height are in inches.

Color Mode
If you don’t know which color mode to choose then I want you to select RGB. The key is to make sure you haven’t chosen grayscale. If you do EVERYTHING will be black and white in your new document.

You can choose other resolutions but 300 dpi (or pixels per inch) will help ensure high printing quality. All the papers and elements on our CDs are created at 300 dpi. If you NEVER plan to print your document you could choose 72 dpi which is good for the computer and TV.

The lower the dpi (dots per inch) the fuzzier the picture becomes because you have less dots to make up the picture. Typically you shouldn’t save above 300 dpi because it will take too much space on your computer.

Choose File then Open if you want to open one of your pictures or one of the papers or embellishments from our CDs.

When you get a pop up box like the one below click on the file that has what you are looking for. Find the picture, paper or embellishment you want then click open.
